European Skiing – Les Menuires, What’s it all About?
If you and your family are looking for diverse and quality skiing, Les Menuires in the French Alps should be high on your list of possibilities. With wonderful facilities, a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and exceptional ‘bang for your buck’, Les Menuires offers some of the best value skiing available in Europe.
The cost of skiing – Les Menuires shapes up!
Today, the discerning skier has considerable choice when it comes to deciding where to spend their ski dollar (or pound or euro!). Over recent years, ski resorts have opened up in different parts of the world, meaning that some European resorts have found themselves to be in competition not only with each other, but also with others in places such as North America or Canada. Some European resorts have responded well to this, and Les Menuires is one that has risen to the challenge – offering great accommodation, reasonable prices and, above all fantastic skiing. Les Menuires, as part of the ‘Three Valleys’ region, is world famous for good reason.
Skiing in Les Menuires – what’s it all about?
The resort sits in the French Alps at an altitude of 1850 metres. Based around two summits at 2700 metres and 2850 metres, it has an excellent season-long snow record. There are around 63 official pistes and, with interconnecting slopes to other resorts, there is a total of about 600 kilometres of skiing at your disposal. All levels of abilities are catered for, from beginner nursery slopes up to those that would test even the world’s best skiers and adrenaline-junkies.
Not just about snow
However much you love being out on the slopes, the reality is that nobody can spend 24 hours per day on them! If you’re not actually skiing, Les Menuires, unlike some other resorts, offers plenty of other things to do.
There are no fewer than 100 shops, 50 bars and restaurants, six night clubs (just in case you like burning off all that excess energy after a day on the slopes), an open air heated swimming pool and two cinemas. So, whatever else may happen when you’re not on your skis, boredom won’t be included!
Making a selection
Perhaps ‘convenience’ isn’t a terribly exciting thing to talk about when thinking about your annual ski holiday, but many of us may privately admit that it sometimes plays a big part in our deliberations. If you don’t like the thought of spending a substantial proportion of your ski break sitting on a long-haul flight, or in airports waiting for transfers (or to see the latest excuse posted on the departures board), then the European resorts will continue to look very attractive and very convenient. For access to quality accommodation, excellent après-ski and exceptional skiing, Les Menuires may take some beating.
