Family Fun From the Chalet in Val d’Isere

If you’re going away with the family to the Alps, there are plenty of great reasons to choose the convenience of staying in a ski chalet. Val d’Isere may have a reputation as a luxury skiing destination, but there is another, far more family-orientated side to the resort – offering activities that you can all participate in together; including climbing, ice-skating, canyoning and snow-shoe walking. Alongside skiing it might end up being hard to fit everything in during your stay at the resort! In order to help you maximise your time and decide which activity to get on with first, here is a short list of some of the options:

Swing From the Trees

For something a little active, the Parcours Aventure, which is open from June to August, is great fun for kids and adults – guaranteed to get all of you out of even the cosiest chalet. Val d’Isere is deservedly proud of this fantastic adventure park, a network of ropes, bridges, beams and zip-lines, all hung from the trees in an environmentally sensitive manner. The courses offer several different levels of difficulty, although in order to use the adventure park, children must be over 6 years old and at least 1.40 metres high.

Activities for All Ages

In summer, too, there are many other great reasons to leave the comfort of your chalet. Val d’Isere is home to a wide-range of summer activity clubs, providing all kinds of entertainment and distractions for children in the resort. ‘Les Aiglons’ is for children between 4 and 10 years old, offering dance classes, picnics, trampolines and plenty more. The ‘Junior Club’ is run for the benefit of children at the resort aged between 11 and 16. As the older kids are a little more demanding, the activities include street-hockey, canyoning and rock climbing. If you’re looking for an escape from the kids, these clubs offer a great way for them try new activities in a safe environment while you go out and enjoy yourselves with some more adult pursuits!

Take Aim!

Archery is a fantastic activity to try in the mountains. The sport requires poise, concentration and a steady hand, involving a forgotten skill that was once commonplace – just make sure you don’t point your bow towards your chalet! Val d’Isere offers archery lessons at the Parc des Sports Vallée du Manchet. The lessons run from June to August, and are available for all levels of ability. Wannabe archers need to be over 8 years of age to take part in the lessons.

Plodding Picnics

Donkey rides are often associated with windswept holidays of attrition on grey British beaches; but donkey trekking in Val d’Isere puts a completely different slant on the activity. It’s a brilliant way to explore the stunning Alpine landscape, allowing you to stop for picnics along the route. The donkey treks are available for all ages and are a perfect activity for all the family.
