As such, it was never designed to be the exclusive preserve of the super-rich so has none of the airs and graces found in some other Alpine resorts. However, as it hosted an event in the 1992 Winter Olympics, it was fairly radically re-vamped in the 1980s and expanded to cope with the demands of more discerning and demanding skiers.
Today, the resort (which is part of the world-renowned ‘Three Valleys’ skiing region) caters for a broad mixture of people, offering excellent value, high-quality skiing, without the need to feel you have to arrive by private helicopter – though you can if you wish! Yet the sheer size and scale of the slopes here (over 600km in all) means that when you are out skiing, Les Menuires will never seem crowded – though certain slopes, particularly the nurseries, may be busy at peak times. Les Menuires has a happy blend of superb facilities but in a comfortable environment.

The accommodation is great, the location is picturesque, but the most important question still must be – what about the snow? Of course, nobody at any ski resort anywhere can unconditionally guarantee you perfect snow and skiing conditions – if only they could!
